MineSense follows Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission standards (http://nuclearsafety.gc.ca/eng/). MineSense uses general public exposure limits as design criteria, as those exceed the requirements for mining.
2What shovels can ShovelSense be installed on?
ShovelSense can be installed on the buckets of cable/rope shovels, hydraulic excavators and front end loaders. We have many pre-designed Application Packages for shovel buckets and custom design.
3How long does installation of a ShovelSense System take per shovel?
The initial installation of ShovelSense on the bucket typically takes between four and six person days of welding and mechanical work. The installation of the remaining system on the machine body, takes between three and six person days.
4What equipment and skilled labour is needed onsite for a ShovelSense installation?
The work on the bucket requires welding, while installation of the machine body components, is mainly electrical with some welding. Scaffolding and /or a person-lift and a crane will be required.
5How is the ShovelSense system powered?
A ShovelSense System will draw power from the machine on which it is mounted. This power can be 24 VDC or 110-240 VAC.
1What elements/metals does ShovelSense and BeltSense see?
ShovelSense and BeltSense sees in highest precision: Cu, Zn, Fe, Ni, Pb, Mn, Co, Mo and As. Cd, Hg, In, Tl, Sn, Sb, Bi, Se, Te, U, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr and Nb are also visible dependant on concentration. Additionally, proxy relationships may be developed with the elements in range to infer the concentration of elements.
2What is the time delay before a material classification provided to Dispatch from ShovelSense?
ShovelSense provides material classification within the dig cycle. The truck classification is ready when it has finished loading.
3What data is collected?
The collected data falls in three categories. First, condition and performance metrics are collected and continuously monitored to ensure maximum system availability and optimal performance. This data provides actionable insights to our team of experts to identify improvement opportunities and any potential maintenance issues. Second, sensor data is collected from sensors for continued monitoring, enhancement, and fine-tuning of material classification algorithms. This includes raw sensor signals as well as processed data such as grade and bucket fill profiles. Third, diagnostic data is collected to help troubleshot failures and to assist in ongoing system improvements.
4Where is the data stored?
All data collected is encrypted on the machine and sent to the MineSense cloud platform over secure networks provided by the mine. The MineSense data platform is hosted using Oracle’s enterprise cloud services, which provides top level cybersecurity, business continuity, and data governance trusted by governments, banks, and other global institutions.
5What Fleet Management Systems (FMS) does ShovelSense integrate with?
ShovelSense provides a generic set of APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that can be customized to integrate with any FMS.
6What IT support is needed from site?
MineSense works closely with mine site IT to set up secure network access between systems in the field and the MineSense cloud. This typically includes setting up VPN access, a gateway server, and access to connectivity tools.

A MineSense Field Service Engineer will supervise the installation and commissioning of a ShovelSense system.
2What field support services does MineSense offer after ShovelSense installation?
We offer remote support through our 24/7 Support Desk. Optionally, a dedicated Field Service Engineer can be provided for site support.
3What does the 24/7 Data Support Centre offer?
The 24/7 Support Desk monitor data flows in real time. They identify anomalies and system issues and can react to them in real time. They are in continuous interactive contact with the mine site team.
4What data analytic support can MineSense offer?
A Data Scientist will be monitoring, enhancing, and fine-tuning material classification algorithms optimized to the mine’s ore body.
